White-tailed Tropicbird (Phaeton lepturus) Fajãzinha, Flores, Azores Archipelago, Portugal. (N39°25’57†– W31°15’15â€) Azores are reached by twitchers every October, those birdwatchers research American birds and the best place to see them is the western islands as Corvo and Flores. The interest of those Islands rising years after years. This year we had a real surprise when we receive a text by a Finnish Birder on the opposite Island, he say that they have just found an African White-tailed Tropicbird, this is an Orange tone morph. We manage to cross the channel between the 2 islands the next day to twitch the bird. The behaviour of this bird was really strange for this exclusive pelagic seabird because the church of Fajãzinha seemed very attractive with numerous attempts at each visit to enter a rain gutter in the vicinity of the church’s bell-tower. The Tropicbird kept this behaviour every days at same hour for more than one week. It was not really shy because it fly at less than 2 meters from me in streets at low height before to land on the rough of habitation, it is uncommon to see those kind of bird before a green background.. We were like in Fairy Tales with this situation.
